Analysis of the WFD requirements pertaining to performing of comprehensive environmental monitoring was carried out. Programme of activities and the necessary field studies was developed to elaborate monitoring methodology for the water bodies in the Dniester Delta taking into account the WFD requirements. Pilot programmes of integrated monitoring of different water objects types (rivers, lakes, estuaries) are developed and their testing started. Using the methods of environmental samples taking and analysis, which are recommended in Ukraine and ion the EU, sampling and analysis of water and hydrobionts was organized in the deltaic part of the Dniester, in the Dniester Estuary, Kuchurgany Estuary, Kuyalnik and the Tuzlovska group of Estuaries. Three specialized comprehensive field surveys were performed (Dniester Delta, Tuzlovska group of estuaries), as well as 18 monthly field surveys to the Kuyalnik Estuary and the Rivers Dniester and Turunchuk. The new pilot methodology of research monitoring was elaborated and tested in accordance with the requirements of the Water Framework Directive.
