The ways of using saponite as an environmentally safe raw material for the production of biomaterials have been proposed. The determination of sorption properties of saponite showed that for the adsorption of metal ions it is rational to use the natural saponite, and for removal of organic pollutant compounds with larger molecules from aqueous solutions, it is advisable to conduct preliminary activation and modification of the mineral salts of multivalent metals. The study of sorption properties of saponite with respect to organic dyes of different chemical structure showed that the natural saponite has high sorption properties towards cationic and basic dyes, and bad ones - towards the anionic dye; aiming to improve the sorption properties of natural saponite there was performed its multivalent metal cations activation. Defining characteristics of saponite as apparent and true weight, pH value of aqueous suspensions of saponite, the degree of saturation of the basics allowed to perform the modification of acids and salts of multivalent metals.
