Synthetic method of obtaining (R)- and (S)-enantiomeric 1,1,1-trifluoroalkan-2-oles with high enentiomeric purity (?99,9 %) was elaborated. Target chiral fluorine-containing compounds were synthesized. Mesomorphic properties of the liquid crystal (LC) compositions obtained by introduction of the synthesized chiral compounds into the smrctic C LC host were studied. ?max values for LC compositions of the target compounds vs. concentration and temperature were measured and helical pitch (at least about 100 nm) and helical switching power (16-61 mkm-1) values were estimated. Concentration and temperature dependencies of spontaneous polarization (PS/C=391-583 nC/cm2) and smectic tilt angle (30-32 °) were measured.
