Aim of the SRW: to study clinical-neurological, neurobiological mechanisms of impairments of the sleep-wake cycle and its correction in patients with different types of course of multiple sclerosis. Methods of investigation: clinical-neurological, neuropsychological, biochemical, statistical, methods of questionnaires and polysomnography. Results: A heterogenic character and multifactorial pathogenesis of impairments of the sleep-wake cycle were defined in patients with different types of course of multiple sclerosis. It was found out that demyelinating and degenerative brain damages resulted in brain dysfunction and disintegration of neurotransmitter systems regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Signs of impairments of non-specific brain systems were defined. It was determined a biochemical marker of prognosis for progredient types of course of multiple sclerosis.
