The mechanism of reduction of quantity of metal drops in slag by decrease in viscosity of fusion is offered: at positive polarity due to a temperature factor, and at negative polarity because of formation of fusible compound on the basis of iron oxides. Decrease in losses of metal at negative polarity is shown: with metal drops of slag on 6,0 kg/t and with skulling on a lance on 0,56 kg/t, and at positive polarity: with metal drops of slag on 4,44 kg/t and with iron oxides on 1,54 kg/t.
