In this report, based on the analysis of modern aspects of the physical nature of embrittlement, involves a comprehensive study of the influence of various factors (nature of the defect structure, chemical and phase composition of steels, conditions and modes of exposure, etc.) on the change of physico - mechanical properties of metals and alloys, it was found that the implementation of the structural approach to mitigate radiation embrittlement of RPV steels lies in the optimization of the processes of relaxation of internal stresses and control the nature of accumulation and redistribution of defects of radiation origin. On this basis, proposed a method of reducing embrittlement of steels : ultrasonic impact. To determine the mechanism of nucleation of cracks and other defects in nonequilibrium systems (annealing, irradiation, deformation) in elastic range of stress, the mechanisms of the formation of free volume in the material structure due to collective processes- athermic shear phase transformations of martensitic type. It is shown that the control of the degree of tetragonal distortion of the crystal lattice of the irradiated vessel steel can be an indicator of the degree of damage, which directly precedes the beginning of the nucleation of cracks in steel. Developed a phenomenological model of temperature dependence of yield stress, which corresponds to the behavior of irradiated materials with different types of lattices, which allows to predict the temperature intervals manifestations of radiation embrittlement.
