The object of the study is the process of changing the condition of the gun barrel channel due to its wear when using ammunition of long storage periods. The purpose of the work is to develop recommendations for changing the guaranteed shelf life of 9 mm cartridges based on theoretical and experimental studies of changes in ballistic characteristics of these munitions during their natural aging. Research methods - analysis, forecasting, theoretical and experimental determination of the intensity of wear of a 9 mm gun barrel with the use of long-term storage ammunition and its effect on changes in the initial velocity of the bullet. Previous studies on the effect of long-term storage of ammunition on the initial velocity of a bullet (projectile) have been analyzed and summarized. Theoretical calculations were carried out and the dependencies of the change of the initial speed of the bullet on the length of the barrel of 9 mm guns were determined using the ammunition as a guaranteed and long shelf life based on the experimental values ??obtained from such velocities. The method of forecasting changes in the intensity of depletion of powder charges under the influence of daily, monthly and seasonal changes in ambient temperatures has been developed. RES results can be used to substantiate the changes in the guaranteed shelf life of 9 mm cartridges in order to ensure the safe operation of weapons and ammunition during training in particular and in the training process of the personnel of military units and units of NSU and other armed formations. The scope of application is the technical support of the military-military activity of the National Guard of Ukraine and the educational process of the respective personnel.
