Interface scanning technique was implemented for the measurements of third harmonic generation efficiency under the excitation of nanosecond laser pulses at wavelength 1064 nm. The estimated magnitudes of the effective cubic susceptibility ?(3) (3?; ?, ?, ?) ~ 10-10 esu for the ZnO NPs with the size < 150 nm were about two order higher versus the ones for bulk ZnO. It was revealed the correlation between the absorptive and refractive nonlinear optical response efficiency and the ZnO NPs surface state, obtained from different solutions. It was shown that the proposed methods can be successfully applied for fast characterization and surface conditions monitoring of synthetized HNPs, particularly ZnO NPs. The provided studies of third harmonic generation efficiency and laser radiation self-action effects at wavelength 1064 nm in HNPs indicate this methods to be promising for the fast characterization and surface conditions monitoring of synthetized HNPs within the optimization of their following application as biomarkers for multiphoton microscopy with the response wavelength conversion possibility. The results are recommended for the implementation in scientific research and scientific-production organizations for biomarkers design based on HNPs, particularly GAP-Biophotonics (Geneva University, Switzerland).
