Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 During the project implementation, open databases were analyzed and it was shown that protein R18 protein S18-2 is expressed at very low levels in retinoblastoma and osteosarcoma when the expression of RB protein is lost. It has been shown that the simultaneous exposure of the S18-2 and RB proteins of the Saos-2 osteosarcoma cell line and the Weri-RB retinoblastomas is transformed. RB1-knockout embryonic fibroblasts of mice are transformed into immortalized cells that have a phenotype characteristic of stem cells. Immortalized cells can be differentiated in culture using cocktails of chemicals, and also show elevated telomerase activity. Moreover, the administration of high concentrations of S18-2 protein into tumor cells leads to the death of malignant cells.
