The changes in optical absorption and structural parameters of lithium niobate and Gd3Ga5O12 crystals with depth were studied, diffusion profiles of defect centers and impurities Cu, Co, Fe ions distribution caused by reducing-oxidizing annealings have been determined. Electrical conductivity and pyroelectric properties of diffusion layers of lithium niobate crystals have been investigated. Based on mathematical modeling of coloring processes, oxygen diffusion coefficients in lithium niobate are estimated. In Gd3Ga5O12, after annealing in the presence of a Co3O4 powder, the formation of diffusion layers containing Co2 + ions in the tetrahedra of the garnet structure at the depth of 200 ... 500 mkm was established.
