The object of the study is insect cuticles and mycelial fungi. The purpose of the work is to find alternative sources of chitin and chitosan. There are biochemical research methods: obtaining of chitin, determination of protein content by the Lowry method, the characteristic of the assimilation activity of chitin derivatives by functional tests; chemical research methods: obtaining chitin derivatives by carboxylation - carboxymethyl chitin and deacylation - chitosan, measuring the level of ionic contamination by atomic absorption spectrometry; statistic methods: processing of experimental data using modern software packages. The literature sources in the scope of scientific research work are analyzed. The possibility of obtaining of chitin from the insect cuticle (рeparia flies Hermetia illucens, Culex pipiens mosquitoes) and mycelium of fungi (Agaricus b?sporus) has been worked out. The conditions for the chemical modification of chitin were optimized to produce carboxymethyl chitin and chitosan. The functional activity of chitosan has been investigated towards whole blood, blood plasma and pure fibrinogen. The possibility of modulation of functional activity of platelets by chitosan-based nanoparticles has been determined.
