Especially endangered are the species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine as far as their biology is poorly understood and they are in need of protection (these include reptiles, mammals etc.). Therefore, an important task is to obtain sound information on the likely effects of climate change on ecosystems, where sooner such effects can occur, which will be its nature (primarily determine the risk of extinction of some populations and species), and what to do to be prepared for expected changes and minimize their potential negative consequences. This is particularly important in environmental practice, because the prevailing current biodiversity conservation strategy is still based on individual territorial principle of conservation of species. Unfortunately, the existing network of protected areas are still not sufficiently flexible to adequately respond to these future challenges.
