The object of research: structures of microprogram finite-state machine (FSM) with optimized hardware expenses. The purpose of research: experimental determination of hardware expenses in the logical circuit of the FSM with datapath of transitions (FSM with DT) from the parameters of the FSM using the elemental basis of programmable integrated circuits, also determination of the area of effective application of the examined FSM structures as a set of values of the parameters of the FSM. The obtained results: it is suggested to determine the efficiency of the considered structures of the FSM with DT as the ratio of the numerically expressed hardware expenses for the implementation of the logical circuit of FSM with the canonical structure to the value of hardware expenses in the logical circuit of the equivalent FSM with DT. It is noted that individual blocks in the canonical structure of FSM and in the strictures of FSM with DT have a schematic architecture corresponding to the architecture of typical functional blocks like circuits that are built behind the system of Boolean equations, registers, elements that implement arithmetical and logical operations, memory modules and others. As a result, the examination of hardware expenses was carried out not for the FSM structural units, but for the corresponding typical functional blocks, and the results obtained are extended to structural blocks of FSM. Using VHDL-simulation, hardware expenses studies were conducted in typical functional blocks of digital devices. On the basis of experimental data, approximating analytical dependencies of the hardware expenses in the typical nodes on their parameters were obtained. On the basis of analytical dependencies, analytical expressions for determination of hardware expenses in FSM with canonical structure and in the examined structures of FSM with DT are obtained. Using the obtained analytical expressions, the dependence of the effectiveness of the examined FSM structures on the Mealy and Moore FSM on different FSM parameters was carried out. It is determined that the most effective among the investigated structures is the Moore-type FSM with DT, in which the transition operations are compared with individual states of the FSM.
