The object of investigation - medicinal plants Matricaria chamomilla, Silybum marianu, Bidens tripartite, Salvia officinalis. The aim of research - developing of radiation biotechnology increasing produce and isomeric variation of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants in vitro to raise their pharmaceutical value. The methods of investigation - radiobiological, molecular-biological, spectrophotometric, biochemical, physiological, cytological, statistical. It is known that plant radiobiological reactions are followed with genetic and epigenetic changes in satellite DNA. Method of ISSR-amplification between two short inverted repeats was used to investigate molecular effects under radiation exposure. Then amplicones were cut using site-specific HpaII enzyme. DNA was extracted from leaves of vegetated plants originated from radiation exposed seeds. Seeds radiation exposure with doses 1-50 Gy did not lead to genetic polymorphism of ISSR-sequences in microsatellite DNA. Nevertheless it revealed epigenetic changes marked with DNA switching from maintaining to de novo. Qualitative redetection of phenolic components in Matricaria chamomilla extracts was carried out using high-level liquid chromatography. New components in plant extracts originated from radiation exposed seeds did not appear. Only quantitative index of soluble flavonoids was changed. Thus medicinal raw material originated from seeds exposed with both Rh- and ?-radiation is not harmful to human health. Quantitative spectrophotometric analysis revealed 10 Gy dose as an optimal one to achieve maximum flavonoid yield both per 1 g of raw material and area unit.
