It is established that the rapana is characterized by great ecological plasticity in a variety of unfavorable environmental conditions: contamination with copper ions, detergents, different salinity and in anhydrous medium. An important role in ensuring the ecological plasticity of the rapana is played by the rapid restructuring of the antioxidant system, energy metabolism and enzymes of the general metabolism. It was found out that in all unfavorable conditions the general strategy of the species is the reduction in the size of individuals. With the help of allozyme and DNA markers, the features of the population-genetic structure of the rapan settlements of the northern part of the Black Sea have been established. The populations of rapans from different water areas of the northern part of the Black Sea can be considered local groups of one population. It is established that the flow of genes is the leading factor that determines the peculiarities of the population-genetic structure of the populations of the rapana of the northern part of the Black Sea. The foundations of the adaptive capabilities of rapana are elucidated. Information is important when planning the fishery for other shellfish.
