The thermochemical treatment in the nitrogen-containing medium increases the short-term strength of rings-samples by ~ 30 MPa for air tests at the temperature of 380°C. Treatment in oxygen-containing media somewhat reduces (~ 15 MPa) the short-term strength of the rings-samples. The highest longitudinal strength on the basis of 100 hr showed rings-samples after thermochemical treatment in nitrogen. Thermochemical treatment in oxygen-containing environments provides long-term durability at the level of standard heat treatment of fuel element tubes made of zirconium alloy Zr1% Nb. The microstructural differences in the nature of the destruction of samples of rings from zirconium alloy Zr1% Nb depending on the medium of the heat treatment are shown.
