Goal of the research - the development of the theoretical basics of the controlled forming processes of the tribotechnical systems by means of metal surfaces modification in glow discharge with independent parameters of regime which generalize the theoretical states of the practical development of the processes of vacuum-diffusion gas-discharge surface processing of metals and their alloys, experimental verification of the theoretical statements with recommendations on the practical implementation of the processes of nitriding in glow discharge (NGD). As one of the effective methods of the surface modification of metals, the nitriding in glow discharge with interdependent parameters is traditionally used. Among all the characteristics of the technology, the most significant conditions of relationship on other characteristics of regime is surface temperature, because there is a need of certain combination of electrical parameters of discharge for its maintenance. At the certain surface temperature that is reached by means of factors which are alternate to discharge, it is possible not only to optimize the process but also to improve its controllability and to reach prospected results. Thus, the nitriding in glow discharge with independent parameters open entirely new possibilities, both theoretical and practical. Firstly, it concerns the improvement of the controllability of modification process, its optimization according to the demands of further operation. In spite of obvious new possibilities that opens the usage of the mentioned process, it was not practically researched neither theoretically, nor practically, which could help research all its potential possibilities. Theoretical researches are made on the basis of developed energetic model of the process and it more adequately explains all the subprocesses that are component parts of the general modification process. Combination of the energetic parameters of nitriding in glow discharge in time and by ratio opens new possibilities of controllable forming of the phase structure of surface modified layer according to the operation demands. The process is absolutely ecologically safe and energetically saving in comparison to other variants including traditional nitriding in glow discharge with interdependent parameters, since due to the possibility of technology optimization the power inputs are shortened. It has positive influence on economics of production. The results of the research are being implemented in the production and can be used in all the branches, where it is necessary to increase the metal parts' characteristics of strength, wear resistance, low- and high-cycle fatigue, corrosion resistance etc. (metal processing, aircraft building, woodworking, plastic parts manufacturing etc.).
