The research has substantiated the possibility and investigated the peculiarities of optimization of EPS normal modes on the basis of the least action principle in Hamilton-Ostrogradskii formulation and Pontriagin's maximum integral functions principle. Usage of LAP enabled to develop new method and structural scheme of the system of optimal control of EPS operation. Application of Pontriagin's principle allowed to determine the conditions of optimality and laws of control of electric stations capacities and transformation ratios of power transformers by the criterion of minimum losses of energy. The efficiency of theoretical and practical results of the research is proved by the introduction of industrial samples of the software and field experiments.
