Research objects: adsorbents - natural and modified layer silicates; modifiers - cationic surface-active substances; adsorbates - water, anionic dyes, short-chain surfactants, humate. Methods of research:- preparative, calorimetry, structural sorption, spectral, quantum chemical, molecular statistics. Equipment: analyser Zetasizer Nano ZS, transmission electronic microscope JEM JEOL 1230, high-sensitive calorimeter Tiana-Calve Ms-70, laboratory tensiometer, personal computer. Theoretical and practical results: the studies performed by tensiometric, dynamic and electroforetic light scattering and transmission electronic microscopy provided for the determination of the influence of pH, concentration and time span on the physicochemical properties (surface tension, electrical conductivity, zeta-potential, size and morphology of particles) in aqueous solutions of humate. From the ab initio calculations the energetic and structural characteristics of microclusters formed by the hydration of ions of surface active substances ions in the aqueous solutions, and by the hydration of complex formed by the interaction of these ions in the solution and subsequently sorbed at the surface of layer silicate are determined. The processes of adsorption and desorption of water molecules from gaseous phase onto the specially modified samples of vermiculite with various contents of long-chained surface active cations and sodium in the exchange complex of the mineral are studied. It is shown that, in contrast to an expected increase of the hydrophobicity, the modified samples of organomodified vermiculite exhibit high affinity with respect to water molecules. Novelty: for the first time the characteristic features of the behaviour of studied systems during the adsorption on the surface of layer silicate. Efficiency of implementation: the advantages are revealed of the practical application of organomodified vermiculite for the improvement of water quality. Field of use: environment protection.
