Methods of research: formal logic - for analysis, generalization, selection and systematization of material; theoretical and historical generalization - to substantiate the theoretical positions of the modernization of the mechanisms of structural policy; system analysis, generalization - for studying the structure of the region's economy and factors of its transformation, identification of structural imbalances; observation, comparative, morphological analysis - to assess the effectiveness of mechanisms for the implementation of regional structural policies and identify approaches to their improvement; analogy, hypothetical-deductive method - for the elaboration and substantiation of the principles of modernization of mechanisms for the implementation of regional structural policy. The results and their novelty - the theoretical and methodological principles of modernization of the mechanisms of regional structural policy are substantiated; an analysis of the structure of the regions' economies was carried out and identified structural imbalances and the reasons for which they were caused; assessment of structural transformations and mechanisms of structuring of separate sectors of the regional economy; an assessment of the effectiveness of the mechanisms of regional structural policy; outlined the concept and worked out recommendations for the modernization of mechanisms for the implementation of regional structural policy. A fundamentally new approach to the justification of modernization of regional policy implementation mechanisms is proposed, based on the systematic consideration of the challenges and requirements of endo- and exogenous factors of regional economic structuring, providing strategic goals for the structuring of regional economies on the basis of achieving synergy and complementarity of the functional mechanisms of structural improvement on the vertical and horizontal lines. The obtained results were tested and brought to the level of specific methodological and practical recommendations and found use in the activities of central and local executive authorities, local authorities. The developed recommendations can form a methodological basis for solving the structural problems of the regional economy and its individual components.
