Cracking in the cladding layer of the chemical reactor was simulated in the software complex Ansys Workbanch and the distribution of equivalent stresses from the workloads was obtained. In the most stressed location of the apparatus, a crack is modeled and its effect on the stress state of the vessel and the possibility of its further growth are investigated. The obtained results showed that cracking is a dangerous phenomenon, since during operation it leads to its germination deep into the cavity, and therefore needs to be repaired. Numerous traces of corrosion on the outer surface of the investigated pieces of reinforcing ropes served as foci of the initiation of fretting-corrosion cracks. It is established that one of the reasons for the destruction of armo-channels is the spread of cracks in them (probably formed during their installation) due to the development of corrosion processes with long-term exposure to significant operating stresses. Based on the results of fractographic and fractal analysis of the investigated fractures of cable lines operated, a relationship between the nature of failure and metal damage was revealed. Thus, the brittle fracture of the wire is characterized by a large value of fractal dimension and a smaller index of material damage.
