Bogatsky, Physico-Chemical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 Research object - imidazole-containing bis(benzocrown ethers). A purpose of work is synthesis of imidazole-containing bis(benzocrown ethers) and study of their complexation with various cations. Research methods - synthetic, UV, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray. The boiling of crown-containing benzyls with substituted benzaldehydes in acetic acid in the presence of ammonium acetate leads to the formation of imidazole-bound bis(benzocrown ethers) with yields of 51-88%, containing a benzene ring in the 2-position of the imidazole ring with various substituents in m- and n-positions. Optimization of the geometry of some imidazole crown ethers and their complexes with sodium and potassium cations by the semiempirical PM6-D3 method is carried out. It has been shown that the obtained crown-containing imidazoles form with alkali and alkaline-earth metal cations as sandwich complexes of 1:1 composition and, in most cases, 1:2 (L:M) complexes with a significantly lower stability constant. More stable complexes form compounds containing 18-member crown-ether rings. Among alkali metal cations, the most stable complexes are observed with potassium and rubidium cations, and with alkaline earth metals with barium cation.
