One of the properties that ensure consistently high yields of hybrids and profitability of cultivation in the eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine is the high intensity of filling and rapid loss of moisture by grain what contributes to the rational use of energy resources. The importance of these traits necessitates a thorough study of this problem and determination of dependence of the filling intensity and drying rate of the grain on valuable economic attributes in maize lines. The objective of this paper is to determine the relationship between the intensity of filling and the rate of moisture loss of grain with the manifestation of valuable economic characteristics in maize lines, the allocation of sources with intensive grain filling, rapid moisture loss and high level of valuable economic characteristics as a starting material for heterotic maize breeding. The maize collection was created numbering 6443 samples. According to the "Regulations on registration of collections and samples of the plant gene pool in the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine", five maize lines were transferred for registration during the reporting period: UKh 1002, SL 73-96-1, CO 190, W 83, P 502 with high level of productivity (91-112 g), intensive filling (35-40 days) and rapid moisture loss by grain (4-10 days), resistant to plant lodging, cob wilting, corn moth (9 scores), thin and medium cob rod, high yield of grain (85-88%), having the ability to intensively accumulate dry matter and quick loss moisture by grains. A working collection of maize lines with rapid moisture loss by grains (66 samples) was formed, different manifestation levels of valuable economic and morphological traits. Inclusion of these lines in the breeding program will accelerate the creation and implementation of the hybrids with rapid moisture loss into agricultural production. Due to this, the efficiency of maize growing can be increased by 10-15%.
