Goal of the work: to investigate the effect of strong magnetic field on the welding process, on the structure, thermal and operation properties of PE and PP welded joints. Research methods: X-ray testing (WAXS, SAXS), thermal analysis and mechanical testing. Method of welding for similar-type and hard-to-weld materials based on PE and PP has been developed, using permanent transversal and longitudinal magnetic field (B ~ 1 Tl). Structure, thermal and operational properties of welded joints (PE-80/PE-80, PP-80/PP-80, PP-80/PE-80 and PE-X/PE-X, PE-RT/PE-RT) received under effect of permanent magnetic field and without it have been investigated. It is shown that permanent magnetic field effect during the welding on the polymers' melt in the welded zone causes formation of the aligned structure of the welded joint where the axle of structure corresponds to the direction of magnetic field. This effect appears in the improvement of thermal and operational properties of the welded joints, and this is connected to the alignment of magnetically-anisotropic macromolecules and aggregates present in the polymers' melts in the magnetic fields.
