The purpose of the work is to improve the methodological bases of quantitative estimation of CO2 emissions from the soil and expert assessment of emission of carbon losses from the soil under different weather and climatic conditions of the year. Methods of research - laboratory-analytical, field, statistical and mathematical. Theoretical and practical results - as a result of the research, it was confirmed that the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions from the soil and the dynamics of this indicator to a large extent depends on hydrothermal conditions, in particular humidity and temperature of the soil. The results of the comparison of the intensity of the selection of carbon dioxide from virgin soils and from plowing were obtained, which indicate an intensive emission stream of CO2 from natural soils. Novelty - the mathematical model of CO2 emission from the soil was developed, taking into account hydrothermal conditions, and with its help the annual carbon losses due to "soil respiration", including the cold period of the year, were calculated. Field of application - agriculture. Implementation efficiency - the results of the study can be used for scientific substantiation of the climate strategy of agricultural development in Ukraine and the corresponding project proposals to the Green Climate Fund, in accordance with the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
