The subject of research is conditions of obtaining, structure and characteristic optical spectra of nanoparticles and clusters of different numbers of atoms of binary semiconductor compounds. The purpose of the work is to study the nature of the special structure of cluster phases of binary semiconductor compounds, to identify clusters of increased stability, and their optical characterization. The technology of obtaining of nanoparticles and cluster phases of binary semiconductor compounds has been developed using the method of laser ablation with the pulses of nano-, pico- and femtosecond duration. A comparative characteristic of the samples obtained by ablation of impulses of different durations is carried out. Colloidal solutions of samples are characterized by absorption and luminescence spectra. The influence of cysteine as surfactant on the stability and size of formed nanoparticles is proved. The mass spectra of samples obtained by ablation in vacuum are analyzed. The mathematical models of nested-shell zinc oxide clusters are developed. The structures of clusters of the lowest energy were determined by methods of quantum chemistry, their infrared absorption and Raman scattering spectra were calculated. Validation of the results of various quantum-chemical methods in relation to the experimental results of mass spectroscopy is performed. The possible application is nanoengineering of materials with atomic precision.
