The analysis of the experimental data on the dependence of the radiation-protective characteristics of the laminated materials shows that the characteristic feature of the protective properties of composites is the inherent properties of these, due to the presence of interfaces between layers of heterogeneous metals. Multicomponent CrVN and multilayered CrN/VN nanostructured coatings were deposited by the vacuum arc method. The intensity of phase reflections from the individual layers of CrN and VN sharply decreases with decreasing in the thickness of layers less than 100 nm. The hardness and modulus of all multilayer coatings increases compared to chromium nitride, which has a hardness of 20 GPa. As the thickness of the layers increases, the hardness increases and reaches 30 GPa in coatings with the thickness of the layers of 100 nm, then it goes down to 28 GPa. The coefficient of friction is ~ 0.55, which is significantly less than for CrN, under dry friction at room temperature.
