Karazin popup.description2 Object of research: Unbalanced plasma in discharges of various types in carbon dioxide in the range of pressure from 0.01 Pa to 100 kPa. Purpose: to develop the physical basis for the creation of a new generation of innovative technologies and equipment for the conversion of CO2. Method of investigation: complex experimental and theoretical studies of a wide range of discharges in carbon dioxide. The unipolar low pressure pulsed discharge (13-66 Pa) in CO2 in the frequency range of 20-200 kHz with duty cycle of 0.1 to 0.85 and voltage amplitudes of 600-1000 V has been recearched. It was found that the effect of the current amplification in the mid-frequency pulse discharges, observed earlier in other gases, takes place also for the discharge in CO2 with a gain of 1-2. In this case, the gain decreases with the discharge current growth, both with the increase in the amplitude of the pulse voltage, and with the increase in the pressure of carbon dioxide. It was concluded that the most important factor in this mechanism is the heating of gas in the discharge gap during the plasma phase phase, which leads to a local decrease in the concentration of neutral gas molecules and, consequently, to decrease the ionization rate. The structure of unipolar and bipolar impulse discharges in СО2 has been investigated in the pressure range from 13 Pa to 133 Pa, the frequency range from 20 kHz to 300 kHz and duty cycle from 12% to 96%. It has been demonstrated that under fixed pressure, frequency, distance between electrodes and applied voltage, it is possible to obtain different discharge modes only by changing the value of filling factors.
