Subject-matter of the research - political and legal transformations of Ukrainian peasantry as a specific and intrinsically unique social stratum of Ukrainian society in the first third of the 20th century. The goal of the scientific research work consists of processing the primary sources and previous achievements using the current scientific research methodology in order to determine the political and legal transformations the Ukrainian peasantry faced in the conditions of social-political shocks and social-economic transformations of the first third of the 20th century, and substantiate the corresponding proposals for improvements in the problematic areas related to the current agrarian and land legislation in Ukraine, the legal status of peasantry, agricultural producers, etc. Main scientific results: The level and the completeness of the source base is determined. Methodology of research is developed. Objective knowledge on the evolution of the Ukrainian peasantry legal status during the first third of the 20th century is obtained. Legal culture of peasantry, the dynamics and main tendencies of its changes under the influence of the social-political shocks and social-economic transformations of the first third of the 20th century are revealed. Specifics of peasantry as a unique stratum of Ukrainian society are revealed. Specifics of legal awareness are determined, the level of its growth is shown based on the example of peasantry participation in the local self-government. Main reasons and the legal nature of social banditry are determined, social banditry is defined as a local temporary phenomenon provoked by a series of economic factors and the degradation of the social awareness of a peasant. It is determined that the social banditry phenomenon is also incidental to current society, especially in the conditions of military operations. The essence and the content of agrarian legislation in Ukraine in 1902-1917, in the years of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921 and the New Economic Policy are revealed. Specifics of agrarian legislation in Ukraine during the formation of the state-farm-collective farm system are studied. The essence, the characteristic features of agrarian policy of military-political regimes in Ukraine in the years of 1917-1921 revolutions are revealed. Specifics of agrarian policy in Ukraine during the New Economic Policy and the formation of the state-farm-collective farm system are studied. Proposals for improvements of the agrarian policy, agrarian and land legislation in Ukraine, as well as the optimization of the legal status of peasantry, agricultural produce manufacturers are substantiated.
