The specifics of the development of the private property institute in the period of the Middle Ages were determined; The questions of formation and development of some sources of knowledge of private law of Europe of modern times are researched. It is proved that the origins of the Ukrainian state tradition reach Kyivan Rus. The constitutional acts of the period of the French Revolution are analyzed and it is concluded that the first French constitution, although it was a compromise document, which tried to find a social compromise in society through legal means, however, it turned out to be temporary because in the short time the following constitutions were adopted 1793, 1795 and 1799 years. From the point of view of the civilization approach to history, the issues of formation and development of state authorities, local self-government, separate institutes of law in Ukraine, other European countries, in the USA, in particular, revealed the interaction and mutual influence of the state and society; factors that influenced the formation of national consciousness and the national state of Ukrainians; the peculiarities of the formation and development of the Faculty of Law of Lviv University as the oldest law school in Ukraine. According to the results of the research, the peculiarities of formation and development of separate institutes and principles of law and state are singled out for the continental law; as well as legal facilities that provide dynamism to the legal system. An analysis of the formation and development of state-legal institutes in Ukraine and abroad leads to the conclusion that in contrast to globalization processes, in some countries, the desire for national self-awareness and self-identification is traced.
