During the period of grain filling, the net CO2 assimilation rate, the content and quantity of chlorophyll in the leaves of highly productive varieties were greater than in variety Natalka. The faster aging of the photosynthetic apparatus in a high-protein variety was related to an earlier destruction of the components of the photosynthetic apparatus and outflow of nitrogen from the leaf, which contributes to the formation of a grain with a high protein content. Soil drought during the period between flowering and the grains formation decreased the chlorophyll content, the intensity of photosynthetic fixation of CO2 and the quantum efficiency of photosystem II (FSII) in a high-protein variety, rather than in a highly productive one. It was established that foliar treatment of plants with a complex of microelements Avatar-1 and urea increased the activity of the photosynthetic apparatus and its preservation in the late stages of ontogeny. It was revealed that the positive effect of plant treatment with a complex of chelated trace elements on the CO2 gas exchange and quantum efficiency of PSII was more pronounced in a high-protein variety and under conditions of insufficient moisture supply. Under the conditions of pot experiment, foliar treatment with the micronutrient complex Avatar-1 increased the grain productivity of the plant by 5 and 7%, at optimum hydration and drought, respectively, for variety Astarta and by 14 and 18% for variety Natalka. An increase of the duration of the active functioning of the photosynthetic apparatus in the treatment with urea and a complex of trace elements promoted an increase in grain yield in a high-protein variety, but this effect was not pronounced in highly productive varieties with a genetically determined trait of slow aging of the photosynthetic apparatus (stay green phenotype). It was shown that the chlorophyll potential of the upper leaves was more closely correlated with the grain productivity of variety Natalka than Astarta.
