The subject of the research is physical and chemical mechanisms of creation of multi-element oxide compounds Y2Zr2O7 with pyrochlore structure in consolidation and sintering of yttrium and zirconium oxides, mechanisms of formation and evolution of the structure of obtained materials, structure-phase characteristics of materials with different chemical compositions. The objective is to master and improve physical and chemical processes of synthesis of oxide compounds with pyrochlore structure and study their structure-phase characteristics, to advance methods of sintering of oxide compounds and define the technological factors affecting the composition, structure and properties of materials. The structure-phase evolution in synthesis of new substances and consolidation of compounds of the Y2O3 - ZrO2 system was studied. Samples of sintered oxide materials with a volume fraction of the Y2Zr2O7 pyrochlore phase of up to 41% were obtained. The increased kinetics of the volume fraction of the pyrochlore phase in samples shows that the targeted chemical reaction intensity has been achieved, which can be done through an increase of the synthesis temperature up to the eutectic temperature or through an enlargement of the reaction surface of powders. The obtained results can be applied in development and adoption of technologies of synthesis of metal-ceramic composites, particularly in creation of dispersion-strengthened materials, e.g. materials for nuclear power facilities.
