The advantages of electronic encyclopedias against the traditional paper encyclopedias are revealed. At the same time, the weak points of the electronic encyclopedic science are shown, which may have a certain negative impact on the development of the classical encyclopedia publishing. Therefore, the authors of this study offered their own vision of the development of the electronic encyclopedias. In particular, electronic encyclopedias are recommended as a source of the most important knowledge in manifold spheres of life, as well as one of the technologies for the development of the information society in Ukraine, and also as one of the technologies protecting the Ukrainian information space. Methodical recommendations on the creation of electronic encyclopedias were prepared (published in the book "Methodological foundations for the creation of paper and electronic encyclopedias", Kyiv, 2015).
