The purpose of the work is to make a complete account of mineral species and their varieties in the depths of Ukraine, to clarify their distribution in geological complexes, to give an exhaustive description of physical and chemical properties, to collect data on genesis and to determine the practical value of minerals finds. The research method is the processing of published and unpublished data on mineral finds supplemented by physical and chemical methods of research of mineral matter. Research results. Despite the fact that over the past decade a few dozen new mineral minerals have been discovered in the bolews of Ukraine, the number of mineral species known in Ukraine has not increased but decreased during this time. This is due to changes in the nomenclature of minerals that took place under the assistance of the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). Substantial changes have been made in nomenclature such large groups (subgroups) of minerals common in Ukraine as amphiboles, pyrochlores, tourmalines, apatites etc. To identify the mineral species the necessary information about the position of a chemical elements in mineral structure, the charge of atoms and the individual composition of lanthanides. These are the requirements of the study, the methods of which are currently not available for Ukrainian mineralogists. As a consequence, mentioned in the literature finding species can now be identified only as a finding representatives of individual groups or series of minerals. Problematic is the Cyrillic record of Latin mineral names approved by CNMNC, the widespread use in literature discredited mineral names and references to discredited species which creates barriers for search engines, the creation of electronic databases and automated systematization of information. Therefore, the work on collecting information was preceded by work on the ordering of the nomenclature and Ukrainian names of mineral species. A draft of the Dictionary of normative names of minerals in Ukrainian was created, containing more than 8 thousand terms, written in letters of the enlarged Latin, Ukrainian and Russian alphabets. The project was presented for discussion on the site of the Mineralogical Encyclopaedia of Ukraine. The dictionary gives information about the status of mineral and the status of name, the origin of name, the variants of crystallochemical formula and the degree of distribution of mineral in the bowels of Ukraine. Finds of rare minerals or are described in standard form, or the specified literary source, where the information about the discovery is located. Ukraine is in the rearguard of countries where new species are registered, much inferior to other, even significantly smaller, countries. The collected data on the distribution of minerals showed that Ukraine has a huge potential for the discovery of new minerals. The wider introduction of the electronic microprobe in methodology of mineralogical studies has allowed the identification of still unknown varieties of minerals, often unique, as well as a number of undiagnosed phases and natural alloys. Mineralogists of Ukraine have all chances to replenish the "golden balance" of the state thanks to mineral finds, unique and unknown in the world. The research results are posted on the website: http://www.mineralopediaukraine.com/. It is planned to publish them as a multi-volume collection of regional mineralogy - "Mineralogical Encyclopedia of Ukraine".
