The existence of the compounds Tl2PbSiS4, Tl2PbSi(Ge)Se4, Tl2PbSi3S8, Tl2HgSi(Ge)3S8 and Tl2HgSi(Ge,Sn)S4 was found. Isothermal sections of the Tl2X-Ga(In)2X3-Ge(Sn)X2 (8) at 670 K and vertical section TlGa(In)X2-Si(Ge,Sn)X2 (13) were studied. The compounds TlCIIIDIVX4 (12), Tl3CIII3DIVX8 (2), Tl2CIII2DIVX6 (4), TlCIIIDIV2X6 (4), TlCIIIDIV3X8 (2) were found. The crystal and electronic structure of the compounds were investigated. The compounds Tl2HgSi(Sn)S4 melt incongruently (654 K and 718 K respectively), whereas Tl2HgGeS4 melts congruently (698 K). It was determined that, in addition to above-mentioned, the compounds form in the systems. Single crystals of TlInGe2Se6 and the solid solutions Tl1-xIn1-xSix(Gex,Snx)Se2 and Tl1-xGa1-xSnxSe2 were grown by vertical Bridgman-Stockbarger methods. The crystals are wide-gap semiconductors and new photoconductive materials. Non-linear optical properties of the compounds TlInGe2S(Se)6, TlInSn2Se6, TlInGe3S8 were studied. Superconducting, electric and magnetic properties of the carbides of rare-earth metals were discussed, particular from the viewpoint of the low-dimentionality (1D, 2D) of their structure.
