In addition, the development of new experimental tools, such as STM and ACM, allows to control the quality of the friction interface with submicron precision. The significant importance of friction in general and existing specific friction problems is based on point contact studies. Therefore, the description of the interface of mono-contact friction is significantly different from the multі-conact experiments, and depends on many factors, such as load, slip rate and previous history of the system. Investigation of mono-contact friction is experimentally implemented using a magnetic levitation tribometer (MLT). Within the framework of the second stage, the mechanical part of the levitation magnetic tribometer has been improved, namely (i) the reduction of contamination of the investigated surfaces is achieved by means of the vertical grapple of the sample (allows rapid experiments to be carried out); (ii) the development of a smooth flow of the oscillatory system to the point of gravity of the investigated tribological pair (PDMS / glass) prevents the destruction of the surface of the plastic material, which is the prototype of the organic monolayers; (iii) the functionality of the electrical units of the device is optimized to prevent the impact of electrical interference. Test measurements were made with a metal ball on a glass plate for different loads. The moment of inertia of the pendulum J is empirically determined for different positions of magnets / loads racks. Thus, the effective action of the magnetic field K. was calculated. Determination of the damping parameter of the vibrational system was carried out by analyzing the energy damping curve. The method proved to be powerful for determining the coefficients of friction for a pair of PDMS / glass at very low loads. This technique allows quick and accurate measurement of point contact. The method also avoids the effect of surface roughness on the friction properties of materials. Our experimental results for the studied materials pairs (steel / Cu, steel / Al, steel / PDMS, etc.) are well corresponded with the known table data.
