The paper reviews the regulatory environment of Ukraine's environmental protection and describes the experience of implementing decentralization in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. The ecological risks of Carpathian region are considered and the state of financial provision of environmental protection in the region is analyzed. The theoretical and conceptual principles of forming an economic mechanism for providing environmental protection are presented. The criteria for assessing environmental risks and the method of determining the integral indicator of the level of environmental safety in the region are proposed. The financial support and distribution of funds of environmental protection funds are grounded. The financial capacity of local budgets of the joint territorial communities of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast is assessed and recommendations and ways of implementing the economic mechanism for ensuring the protection of the natural environment in the conditions of financial decentralization are presented.
