The purpose of the work is to increase the tribological characteristics of alloyed cast iron and steel of the ledeburite class by developing a technological process of surface hardening treatment using plasma pulses. Methods of research: optical and electron microscopy, energy dispersion spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, microhardness measurements; wear resistance tests. The work is dedicated to microstructure and properties of multi-component gradient coatings obtained on steel Cr12V and 260Cr15Mn4VT cast iron by pulse-plasma deposition using a cathode made of 170Cr14Mn3Si3Ni1VB1 ledeuburite steel. Electrothermal axial plasma accelerator is used as a plasma source. It has been established that pulse-plasma processing results in the formation of a modified layer on the surface to be treated. The supersaturated solid solution forms in the coating, which, by post-plasma thermal treatment, provides a solid-phase reaction for the precipitation of carbide (M7C3) and carboboride (М2(С,B) and М5(С,B)3) phases in various ratios of the coating cross-section. It has been established that the volume fraction of inclusions makes an average of 55%, which is 23% higher than the initial state of the cathode material. It is shown that the formation of such a structure increases the microhardness of the surface by 1.5 times (up to 885-1100 HV) and the tribological characteristics of the surface (abrasive wear resistance) averagely 1.35 times.
