Purpose: to improve the technology of medical care for children and adolescents who suffer from diabetes mellitus of the 1st type. Methods: general, biochemical, immunoferment, instrumental, psychodiagnostic and statistical methods. Results; It has been proved that patients who suffer from diabetes mellitus of the 1st type for more than three years are adapted to their state regardless the gender and their indexes of anxiety, aggressiveness, frustration and rigidity remain at low level. It was disclosed that the formation and support of motivation for self-control depends on adolescent's compliance, the locus of health control, personality traits and behavioral strategies in case of disease. Package of psycho-diagnostic tools has been created. The features of locus control of the health of adolescents with diabetes of the 1st type have been disclosed. The gender difference in the issues of responsibility for own health has been determined (it is three times higher for boys comparing to girls). Medical support for a patient with diabetes requires a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the motivation to self-control the disease, taking into account the state of glycemic control. Novelty: the structure of motivation in patients with diabetes mellitus has been studied for the first time, the factors influencing the formation and support of motivation for self-control have been determined, the significance of the influence of motivation on the state of compensation of diabetes have been determined, a set of psychodiagnostic tools for assessing the level of long-term motivation in adolescents have been determined. Efficiency: the technology of increasing the motivation to self-control of diabetes mellitus provides a more optimal level of compensation for diabetes and prevents its complications.
