The purpose of the work is the scientific study and research on the history and practical experience in the field of the restoration of monumental painting in Ukraine during the period of the 18th-beginning of the 21stcentury on the example of the Trinity Gate Church and paintings on theMonastery walls. Research methods - search for available archival and historiographic sources, comparative, methodological and techno-technological analysis, photophixation, synthesis of results, monitoring and evaluation of the current state of the problem. The history of the restoration of the monumental painting of the Trinity Gate Church and the walls is presented for the first time as a comprehensive study. The work outlines the main stages of restoration interventions at the monument, examines the issues of analysis and study of the basic principles and practical methods of restoration of monumental painting, gives an assessment of the previous experience of restoration. On the basis of the analysis of modern technical and technological methods of research of wall painting of the church and walls, its specificity and information on history, time of creation and attribution were revealed. The scientific treatment introduced little-known and inaccessible to the general public materials related to the history of the protection, conservation and restoration of the monumental painting of the Trinity Gate Church and the walls. The knowledge of the previous achievements and losses in the field of restoration will allow us to go deeper into the solution of modern problems of preservation and restoration of monumental paintings. The practical value of the work consists in the further use of its results during the implementation of the following restoration projects, scientific researches, and observations. The presented work initiates the creation of a scientific information base of monumental painting monuments of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve and the development of recommendations for their further conservation and restoration. Materials of the research can be used as a source of information for restorers, art historians, workers of National preserves and other museum institutions of Ukraine, teachers and students of educational institutions of culture and arts, mass media.
