These strains produced up to 13 times more glycerol ethanol than wild type strain. Also recombinant O. polymorpha strains were constructed based on the strains NCYC495 (wild strain strain) and WT / PDC1 / ADH1 / GCY1 / DAK1, with an over-expression of the heterologous FPS1Pp gene encoding the glycerol transporter in Pichia pastoris. The obtained strains better accumulated biomass and produced more ethanol than wild type strains during alcoholic fermentation in an medium containing crude glycerol (waste fraction from biodiesel production). Additionally adaptation of P. pastoris to growth in the medium containing crude glycerol as a Carbon source was carried out. The obtained adapted strains grew better in the corresponding medium and produced up to 17% more ethanol from crude glycerol compared to initial strain.
