In patients with HIV infection, there is a decrease in serum levels of dehydroepiandosterone, triiodothyronine and a tendency to decrease thyroxine, with a preserved level of thyroid stimulating hormone. With severe immune deficiency (the number of CD4-lymphocytes is less than 100 ?l-1), there is a tendency to increase serum cortisol levels. In HIV-infected IDUs, substitution maintenance therapy significantly increases the immunological and virological efficacy of ART after 48 weeks of treatment. In HIV-infected IDUs who did not receive substitution maintenance therapy in the period from 24 to 48 weeks of treatment, there is an increase in the number of patients with virological failure.
