The necessity of the definition of historical and legal foundations of the holistic concept of Ukrainian state creation as a national one is substantiated. Conclusions are made on the importance of studying the evolutionary aspects of international law and international legal problems, their influence on the processes of Ukrainian state formation. The main aspects of the historical and legal peculiarities of the evolution of social relations in Ukraine are presented, in particular, through the study of scientists of human rights problems and church-state relations, the emergence in Ukrainian legal thought of the idea of gender equality, the establishment of the institute of the state language in Ukraine, etc. The complex of legal means by which the USSR exercised a legal influence on the social relations of the West Ukrainian lands from the 1939s - the mid-1950s in the direction of the reproduction of political and economic structures of the then Soviet society in the region was analyzed.
