The processes of oxygen vacancies formation in ceria (CeO2-x) and ceria-zirconia (CeO2-ZrO2) nanocrystals was studied using the methods of luminescent spectroscopy. Incorporation of zirconium ions into CeO2-x crystal lattice leads to increase of the content of oxygen vacancies and Ce3+ ions making this material perspective as biological antioxidant.
