The polarimeter principle of operation is based on the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance, as the basic device for biochemical sensors of a new generation for analysis of biological matter and environmental monitoring. The polarimeter operates according to one of two principles. The first principle is the polarization modulation of the scanning light beam and registration at the modulation frequency of the signal, which corresponds to the difference of intensity of two orthogonally polarized light waves IS-IP. The second principle is the modulation-polarimetric registration of the phase shift between the orthogonal linearly polarized components of the scanning light beam. Such a device is the base for creating a wide range of devices: studies of the morphology and physical properties of ultrathin metal and composite films, environmental monitoring and analysis of biomolecular or chemical media. Its application depends only on the availability (or development) of the working element, which is complementary to the corresponding biomolecules or gas molecules.
