The aim of the research is to highlight the linguo-cultural and linguo-stylistic characteristics of the Modern Greek media discourse as well as to study lexical units with the cultural component in the Greek media discourse on the basis of commercials from Modern Greek mass media. The methods of the research were the descriptive one, the comparative one, the structural one and the method of linguo-cultural and psycholinguistic analysis. The scientific novelty of the research is that for the first time in the national Hellenistic studies, a comprehensive study of Modern Greek media discourse (on the basis of Modern Greek media's advertising discourse) is carried out in the linguistic, stylistic and cultural aspects. The vitality of the research is determined by increased attention paid by linguists to analysis of the modern mass media text as a whole and to particular types thereof, including the advertising text. The results of the comprehensive study can be used to facilitate compilation of teaching aids in such disciplines as media linguistics, language-through-culture studies, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, stylistics of Modern Greek and linguo-stylistic analysis of the text, teaching elective courses concerned with the language of mass media communication and cross-cultural communication, compilation of practical aids in Modern Greek advertising as well as writing course and graduate theses, etc.. The practical significance of the obtained results is also determined by the opportunity of their use in Mariupol State University and in other universities and research institutes, where Modern Greek is taught or researched either as a major or as a discipline. The materials of the research can also be useful in scientific research in the fields of social and cross-cultural communication, media linguistics as well as in compiling thematic teaching aids.
