In the process of research work were applied: structural-functional and historical-comparative methods, general scientific principles, interdisciplinary methods. The state of the research in the national and foreign historiography is analyzed, the main stages of the history of the formation of the NSA are determined, the features and main trends of the NSA historical collections development in different historical periods have been studied. The main stages were scientific work, research, practical and approbation. Two documentary collections were prepared (second edition, supplements) and sent to print: "Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv: movement and loss of holdings, 1946-March,1953"; "The correspondence of Mykhailo Hrushevsky with Olexander Barvinsky: 1894-1926", The monograph "Mykhailo Taran'ko - editor and publisher of Ukrainian magazines and books for children and youth", the booklet "Ossolineum. Lviv collections" was published (in co-authorship). 16 articles were published in professional and foreign publications. The staff of the manuscript department delivered reports at 10 scientific-practical conferences, seminars and meetings. The texts of the reports were published in three editions. Seven interviews and performances were performed on radio and television broadcasts. In the future, work on the informer "Handwritten and book collections of personal origin from the Library of the NTSh: documentary reconstruction on the basis of the Scientific reference departments of the manuscripts of the National Library of Ukraine", database "Historical Library Collections and Collections", "Handwritten Ukrainian Studies in Poland: Transfer Funds of the National Academy of Sciences of the Academy of Sciences USSR ". Archival holdings were worked out: I. Krypiakevich, O. and T. Antonovych, O. and H. Horbach, etc., the references were being formed for newly-developed archives (M. Korduba, Barvinsky, Z. Kuzelia, Ye. Nakonechnyi, H. Demian, and others), over 3,5 thousand units. In order to ensure access to the department's of manuscripts, the work on creating an image-catalog (89 thousand cards) continued. Scientific research results have important scientific and practical value. The research will contribute to the formation and improvement of the NSA in accordance with the principles of archival practice, the organization of access to documents, the introduction of results to the scientific and information circulation.
