The purpose of the study is to assess the competitiveness of the industrial sector of the Western-Western economy and to develop scientific and practical recommendations for its improvement on the domestic and foreign markets in the conditions of free trade between Ukraine and the EU. Research methods - systematic approach, trend analysis, factor analysis, methods of expert and rating assessments, methods of balance estimation, forecasting methods, economic and mathematical modeling, etc. A methodical approach to the definition of the competitiveness of the industrial sector of the economy was developed, with the help of which a comparative analysis of the structural advantages of the industry of Ukraine and the EU member states was conducted. The grouping of the regions of Ukraine according to the values ??of integral indexes of activity (production, export, investment, capital, innovation) and efficiency (resource, economic) functioning of the industrial sector of the economy are carried out. The comparative estimation of the competitive advantages of the industry of Ukraine and Poland on the macro- and meso-levels is carried out. Optimized structures of industry output of Ukraine and its regions have been constructed according to criteria of increasing the level of profitability and technological efficiency of production. The scheme of complex optimization of the structure of the industrial sector of the Ukrainian economy has been developed. A number of organizational and economic mechanisms aimed at strengthening the competitive advantages of domestic commodity producers in the conditions of globalization are proposed. The main results of the research were introduced into the activities of the Committee on European Integration (Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine), the National Committee for Industrial Development, and 15 regional state administrations.
