The aim was: to perform epidemiological studies and to investigate conditions of medical care delivery for patients with epilepsy in different regions of Ukraine; to establish a registry of patients with epilepsy; to study epilepsy clinical peculiarities, incidence, and prevalence in socially, economically, and culturally different regions of Ukraine (in Kharkiv and Zakarpattya regions as examples); to carry out comparison of the data obtained from different regions of Ukraine between them and with data from official statistics of Ukraine. Methods of investigation: epidemiological, informational-analytic, statistical (descriptive-statistical and analytic-statistical), anthropometric and anthroposcopic. Results: A tendency to elevation of number of patients with epilepsy was revealed, but in the majority of regions there was a decreasing of incidence in 2008-2009 and 2014-2015, which was out of the general picture. With the electronic registry, the analysis 1911 adults and 998 children with epilepsy was performed; an integrated physical anthropological examination of 51 patients with epilepsy was carried out as well. Significant differences between contingents of patients with epilepsy in Kharkiv and Zakarpattya regions were found out. It was revealed predomination of a symptomatic form of epilepsy for Kharkiv Region and a cryptogenic form for Zakarpattya Region. A higher frequency of absances was found out in Kharkiv Region (12.4 %). For Kharkiv region a predomination of patients with a high frequency of attacks was found out. Differences in the spectrum of mental disorders in patients with epilepsy in Kharkiv and Zakarpattya regions were found out. A significant part of pseudo-resistant forms among cases of pharmacologically resistant epilepsy in childhood was found out. Among patients with disability, a significant part of persons with disability on psychiatry was found out in Kharkiv Region, apart from Zakarpattya Region. It was determined that a significant part of patients with epilepsy are treated with Carbamazepine with an insufficient differentiation. A percent of prescription of "new" antiepileptic medication is increased insufficiently. An implementation of the registry will enable improving diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for patients with epilepsy.
