The purpose of the work is to develop methodological recommendations for determining the appropriateness of using as an alternative criterion for evaluating the affecting properties of balls of traumatic action of the length of the wound canal caused by them. Theoretical and practical results - the features of the mechanism of formation of firearms in biological tissues, which were caused by various types of damaging elements of traumatic action of different caliber, were investigated. Novelty - for the first time, methodical recommendations were developed, in which the introduction of a new criterion for evaluating the impact properties of kinetic shells is proposed. The effectiveness of the implementation - the results of the research can determine the criterion for assessing the affecting properties of kinetic shells of various species, which is based on the length of the wound channel caused by their injuries. Areas of use - results of research work will be introduced into an expert practice of judicial ballistics and forensic medicine, as well as necessary experts of expert institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, can be used by employees of the SBU, investigative bodies and specialized educational institutions.
